Rug Savant | Care & Preservation Guide: Acrylic Yarn Rugs

Welcome to the Rug Savant Care Guide. Your custom rug is crafted with care using premium acrylic yarns from Red Heart, Big Twist, and Thread and Loops, and is constructed with Roberts 3095 Premium Adhesive for lasting durability. This combination ensures vibrant color, soft texture, and enduring structure. To preserve the integrity of both the yarn and the adhesive bond, please follow these essential care instructions.

Primary Care Directive: Protect the Adhesive
The Roberts 3095 adhesive is water-resistant when cured, but prolonged moisture or improper cleaning can compromise its bond. The core rule for maintaining your rug's structure is: Minimize Moisture, Maximize Airflow.

Critical Placement & Traffic Advisory:
Our rugs are designed as decorative accents for low to medium-traffic areas only. Placing your rug in high-traffic zones (e.g., main entryways, commercial spaces, or busy hallways) will accelerate wear on the yarn and stress the adhesive backing, leading to premature deterioration. For longevity, choose protected areas such as bedrooms, formal living spaces, or under low-use furniture.

Section 1: Routine & Preventive Care

  • Use a Rug Pad: A quality non-slip pad is non-negotiable. It reduces friction wear, prevents shifting, and promotes crucial airflow under the rug to keep the adhesive backing stable.

  • Rotate Regularly: Rotate your rug 180 degrees every 3-6 months to ensure even wear and sun exposure.

  • Vacuuming: Use a suction-only vacuum setting (NO beater bar/rotating brush) 1-2 times weekly for medium-traffic areas, or bi-weekly for low-traffic areas.

Section 2: Spot Cleaning (Liquid & Stain Protocol)

The key is swift action with minimal moisture.

  1. BLOT, NEVER RUB. Use a clean, white, absorbent cloth to press down and soak up the spill.

  2. Clean: Mix a tiny amount of clear, mild dish soap with lukewarm water. Dampen a cloth with the solution, wring it out thoroughly, and gently dab the stain.

  3. Rinse (Crucial Step): Dampen a second cloth with plain, lukewarm water, wring it out completely, and dab the area to remove any soap residue. Soap left in the backing can attract dirt and degrade adhesive over time.

  4. Dry Immediately: Blot aggressively with a dry towel. Then, lift the rug and place it over a chair rail or on a raised, breathable surface to ensure air circulates to the backing. A fan can be used to speed drying. The rug must be completely dry to the touch on both sides before it is returned to the floor.

Section 3: Deep Cleaning & Professional Service

  • Professional Cleaning is Recommended. For a thorough clean, use a reputable service. You must inform them that the rug is handcrafted using acrylic yarn and Roberts 3095 adhesive. This dictates their cleaning method and moisture levels.

  • Home Machine Cleaning (Not Recommended): We advise against using home carpet cleaners. The excessive moisture and suction can destabilize the adhesive. If you proceed despite this warning:

    • Use an upholstery tool only.

    • Use cold water and the minimum amount of cleaning solution for synthetics.

    • DO NOT SATURATE. Pass over the area quickly with maximum suction.

    • Dry the rug face-down in a warm, ventilated area with fans, as described above.

Section 4: What to Absolutely Avoid

To protect the yarn and the Roberts 3095 adhesive, never allow the following:

  • DO NOT place in high-traffic, high-moisture, or outdoor areas.

  • DO NOT soak, steam clean, or use excessive water of any temperature.

  • DO NOT use harsh chemicals, vinegar, ammonia, or bleach near the rug.

  • DO NOT clean without thoroughly wringing out all cloths first.

  • DO NOT allow the rug to remain damp. Always ensure rapid, complete drying.

By respecting these guidelines, you are protecting the craftsmanship and materials that make your Rug Savant creation unique.
